Students from around the
world are invited to participate in Our City Podcast! There are
many resources for teachers for using
Our City Podcast in their classrooms and for creating an episode.
I suggest first
having student listen to many of the existing
episodes. Discuss what they noticed in the episodes will help
them in making their own. Use the Planning
Pages for help in writing scripts.
Record and edit
the episode using software like GarageBand
or Audacity. Export
the audio as a MP3 or WAV file.
Use the free
YouSendIt.com service to
email the large audio file to learninginhand@mac.com. Please be sure to listen to the entire episode before submitting to be sure it's appropriate for listeners of all ages.
In an email
message to learninginhand@mac.com,
please include:
- City
Name and State or Country.
- Name
of the episode (like Outstanding Omaha, Hopping Hill City, or
Remarkable Rogersville).
- A
short paragraph about the episode, including the city name, grade
level, teacher's name, and school. Here's an example:
- Eighth
grade students at Lynbrook North Middle School are delighted
to introduce their lovely village located on the South Shore
of Long Island in the wonderful state of New York. Students
spent time in the library researching their history and learning
about the past. Enjoy their podcast and you’ll discover
why they love Lynbrook!
- Email
address to contact the class.
- Between
one and five photos to be included on the page for the episode.
Please only send photos that have been taken by students or teachers
themselves.
- Links
to websites you wish to include on the episode's page. Check
out existing episode pages by clicking on them from the Our City
Podcast page.
Please be sure
you have school and parental permission for publishing student audio
and photos on the Our City Podcast site. Please do not use student
last names.
